In October 2021, RetailSLUT returned to Los Angeles through a month-long pop-up created by founder Helen O'Neill and Danny Fuentes of Lethal Amounts. The exhibition recreated the spirit of the original Melrose Avenue store with archive-inspired displays, an art show, new merchandise, a Lip Service collaboration and RetailSLUT logo tattoos by Pink Panther Tattoo.
A PACKED OPENING NIGHT
The packed opening brought together longtime members of LA's underground community and a new generation discovering RetailSLUT for the first time. More than a nostalgic recreation, the pop-up proved that the freedom, creativity and rebellion behind RetailSLUT were still alive.
"MORE THAN A NOSTALGIC RECREATION, THE POP-UP PROVED THAT THE FREEDOM, CREATIVITY AND REBELLION BEHIND RETAILSLUT WERE STILL ALIVE."
The return was featured in LA Weekly, which celebrated the store's lasting influence on Los Angeles punk, goth and alternative culture.
